Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS)

Not long ago, surgery used to be an invasive procedure that required large incisions, heavy doses of anesthesia and pain medication, and long hospital stays.

Now, many of our surgical procedures may be done with a minimally invasive laparoscopic surgical technique. This enables our surgeons to perform entire surgeries through tiny incisions while decreasing pain, minimizing scarring, and allowing for a speedier recovery and return to normal routine. The ability to see inside the body has been made possible through advanced video imaging technology and improved instrumentation. Surgeons are able to perform complex procedures by watching the movements of the instruments inside the body on video monitors in the Operating Room.

Types of minimally invasive surgeries offered at Summit Medical Center include:

  • General Surgery
  • Gastroenterology Surgery
  • Neurosurgery
  • Orthopaedic Surgery
  • Urologic Surgery

Preparing for Surgery

Millions of Americans will undergo surgery each year. It is important for patients to be informed about the surgery being recommended. All surgeries have risks and benefits which you should familiarize yourself with before deciding whether the procedure is right for you. It is important to remember that a well-informed patient tends to be more satisfied with the outcome or results of a procedure than a patient who has been less actively involved in their plan of treatment.
